Double Deff Chillers]

Double Deff Chillers (DDC) evolved from several Milton Keynes Hip Hop practitioners uniting to enter a competition held in London during 1986 at an event called UK Fresh. The Double Deff Chillers consisted of DJ/Producer Mixmaster MSC, Rapper MDR (Initially know as 2 Fresh), Rapper/Beatboxer King Paul D, Producer G Whizz, and DJ Cutski. The collective were actively contributing to the Hip Hop scene until 1989 when the remaining active members regrouped as Science Revealed.

Although Double Deff Chillers formed in 1986 the groups evolution started several years prior as a result of DJ Mixmaster MSC and rapper 2 Fresh collaborating to produce several  demo recordings. In the first instance the duo were limited to using DJ Mixmaster MSC‘s turntables, microphone and cassette player to formulate their ideas. Chase One

Chase One is a pioneering graffiti artist and founding member of Buckingham/Milton Keynes Hip Hop collective The Criminal Minds (TCM). In 1985 while living in Buckingham Chase One (then known as Sketch) and DJ Halo (Then known as Impasto) formed The Criminal Minds which eventually evolved in to a collective of pioneering Hip Hop practitioners contributing to all aspects of local Hip Hop culture. Over time Chase One incorporated his foundations in graffiti art in to flyer designs, record covers, logos, and eventually in to his chosen profession of graphic design.

An example of Chase One’s early artwork can be viewed in the below slideshow which contains several flyers for a series of events organised by the Teazer Road Show in the Peartree Bridge area of Milton Keynes during the 1980s. Chase One and DJ Halo both studied at Bletchley collage during this period which is where they initially connected with Milton Keynes based rappers MC Iceski and Safe D who both progressed to form part of The Criminal Minds musical line up alongside rapper CMD and producer Spatts. Science Revealed

Science Revealed consisted of rappers Martin (MDR) and Paul plus producer Gary and formed as a trio in 1989 to record materiel for Milton Keynes based record label Back Beat Records. Previously all three members Martin (MDR), Paul (initially known as King Paul D) and Gary (initially known as G Whizz) had formed part of Milton Keynes Hip Hop collective Double Deff Chillers who’s roots in Hip Hop culture date back to the early 1980’s.

Science Revealed, 1989.

During 1989 Back Beat Records released two Science Revealed compositions via a series of multi genre compilation projects aimed at highlighting artists affiliated to the city of Milton Keynes. The first studio recording entitled “Kick the jam” can be heard in the below youtube insert and formed part of the “Back beat records debut” vinyl EP. The release also featured recordings by New Mutants (“My head“), Illumini (“Captured“) and The Mens Club (“Let me be“). Continue reading
