I first saw DJ QBert perform was as part of the DJ crew “Rock steady DJs” with Mix Master Mike and DJ Apollo when they won the 1992 DMC world mixing championship. Their style was so different and ahead of any other DJ’s that I had heard at the time. It wasn’t until 1996 when I got to hear DJ QBert scratching on the blue flowers single by Dr Octagon. Again DJ QBert scratching was unique and a breath of fresh air at the time in hip hop considering that scratching had began to disappear in favour of the hook or chorus. DJ QBert was definitely a one of the DJ that took scratching/turntablism to a new level through the 1990′s. The video above is just one small example of the mans turntable skills and in this particular clip QBert does not even use the cross fader to scratch.
